01The Deep

The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:2

Before God makes, there is nothing to make from — no material He did not also speak into being. Creation is not God shaping what was already lying there. It is God speaking where there was nothing at all.

The parts of your life that feel formless and empty are not outside His range. They are the conditions He has worked in before, and the ones He chose to start from.

John 1:3
All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Hebrews 11:3
The universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
Psalm 33:9
For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.

02The Word

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Genesis 1:3

God does not build the light. He says it, and it is. His word is not a description of reality that could be checked against it — it is what puts reality in place.

What God has said about you carries the same weight as what He said to the darkness. It is not encouragement to be believed against the evidence. It is the evidence being set.

John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 Corinthians 4:6
God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts.
Psalm 33:6
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.

03The Garden

then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
Genesis 2:7

The God who spoke galaxies into place knelt in the dirt. Humanity is not made by decree from a distance but formed by hand, and started by God’s own breath.

You are dust that has been breathed into. Both halves are true, and dropping either one is how people end up arrogant, or worthless in their own eyes.

Genesis 3:15
The first promise of a rescuer, spoken in the garden on the day it broke.
Psalm 103:14
For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him.

04The Promise

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

The rescue is announced seven hundred years before it arrives, and announced as a birth. God’s answer to a broken world is not a decree from a distance. It is a person, and a childhood.

Waiting is not evidence that nothing is coming. Israel carried this promise for seven centuries, and it was kept — on time, and not on their schedule.

Micah 5:2
The town named, centuries early: “from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel.”
Isaiah 7:14
Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Galatians 4:4
When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son.

05The Cross

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5

At noon the light goes out. The one through whom everything was made is put to death by it, and the exchange is deliberate: our rebellion counted to Him, His wholeness counted to us.

Whatever you have done that you cannot undo has already been accounted for. Not overlooked and not minimised — paid, by someone who knew the full figure.

Matthew 27:45
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.
2 Corinthians 5:21
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

It is finished.

06The Empty Tomb

He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee.
Luke 24:6

The second time light arrives it is not spoken over a formless deep — it walks out of a grave. The resurrection is not a metaphor for hope. It is the claim that death ran out of authority on a particular morning.

This faith stakes itself on an event rather than a feeling. That means it can be examined, and it means yours does not have to rest on how convinced you happen to feel today.

1 Corinthians 15:14
And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.
Romans 6:4
Just as Christ was raised from the dead, we too might walk in newness of life.
John 11:25
I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.

07The Return

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”
Revelation 21:5

The story does not end with escape from the world but with its renewal. Not all new things — all things, new. The same creation that was called good, restored rather than replaced.

It is why Christians plant trees and mend what is broken. If the end is renewal rather than evacuation, the work you do here is not effort spent on a set that gets struck.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more.

The creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption.
